The role:

As Major Events Volunteer and Workforce Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of Liverpool's major event volunteer programme, helping to recruit, train and support a skilled workforce that reflects the diversity, pride and welcoming spirit of our city.

You will play a key role in ensuring volunteers are embedded across event operations, creating positive experiences for participants, spectators, visitors and communities while developing a lasting legacy of volunteering for future events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the planning, coordination and delivery of volunteer and workforce programmes across Liverpool's portfolio of major sporting and cultural events
  • Developing inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities that engage residents, attract diverse audiences and create meaningful pathways into volunteering, employment and skills development.
  • Overseeing volunteer recruitment, selection, training, accreditation, deployment and welfare, ensuring volunteers are supported at every stage of their journey
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with event organisers, delivery partners, community organisations, education providers and key stakeholders to maximise participation and impact.
  • Developing workforce plans and operational processes that ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into event delivery and contribute to safe, welcoming and successful events
  • Measuring programme outcomes, gathering insight and evaluating impact to help create a sustainable volunteer legacy that continues to benefit Liverpool beyond the delivery of individual events

We're looking for an experienced volunteer and workforce event professional with strong leadership, stakeholder management and programme delivery skills, who is passionate about people and committed to creating opportunities that make a lasting difference.

This role is fixed term for the purpose of delivering a programme of major events and will end 31 August 2028.

Shortlisting date: Thursday 22nd October 2026 and task will be sent out with a deadline of Thursday 29th October 2026
Interview date: W/C Monday 9th November 2026
Interview type: shortlisted applicants will be invited to complete a written assessment on Thursday 22nd October 2026, with successful candidates then being invited to a face-to-face interview
